  • Ms. Rebecca Embry has taught mathematics for fifteen years. She has participated in vertical alignment and curriculum writing for Pre-AP mathematics for seven years and served as a lead Pre-AP and Gifted and Talented teacher for two years. Mrs. Embry has presented Summer Pre-AP Institutes fro the last two years. She has presented at the College Board Pre-AP Math Technology Conference in 2008, College Board Pre-AP two-day conference in 2007, and at the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching in 2004. In 2007 and 2008, she presented a summer institute co-sponsored by the College Board and the Austin Independent School District . Mrs. Embry received the Teacher of the Year Award for her campus in 2007. She holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Vermont and is currently working on her master's degree through Texas State University.

Ms. Embry's Homework Assignment: Each participant should bring 15 copies of a favorite project, lesson or activity to share.

  • Kim Thurman-Reifle spent twenty-one years teaching honors / pre-AP 7th and 8th graders (mostly at Bonham Middle School in Amarillo, Texas) before deciding she was mature enough to “graduate” to high school ten years ago. She presently teaches junior AP language at Tascosa High School in Amarillo, where she also serves as department chair. Kim also taught pre-AP sophomore English at Tascosa for two years. Kim has been a College Board consultant since 2002, and has presented summer institutes and two-day seminars throughout Texas, as well as in New Mexico and Oklahoma. Kim holds a B.A and M.A. in English literature from West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas; she has also earned 12 hours towards a Ph.D. She changed her name at Christmas of 2008, marrying a wonderful man with whom she enjoys the symphony, bicycling, scuba diving, and bad puns. She's still working on getting him to ride her grey horse, though.

Mrs. Thurman-Reifle's Homework Assignment: Attendees will need to bring 2 to 3 magazines to cut up, an old paperback or hardback book to “enhance”, a short story or essay taught in their classroom, and one small ball of yarn or string. Please be prepared to move, share, and enjoy!

A 22-year veteran educator, Ms. Tyra has taught English to grades seven through 11, college-level composition I and II, Survival Reading for College, 8th-grade and high school U.S. history, honors Oklahoma history and adult basic education/GED preparation. Ms. Tyra has been a College Board Pre-AP consultant since 2003 and has presented at several summer institutes and one- and two-day conferences. She holds a BS in education (language arts and social studies) and a Master's in Liberal Studies from the University of Oklahoma.

  • Mr. John ( Leon ) Schram has been teaching mathematics and computer science since 1978 at several schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He has taught AP Computer Science since 1983. He received his education at the University of Maryland , the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of North Texas , where he is currently working towards a Doctorate in Technology Education. He is the recipient of the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers, the Texas Computer Educator of the Year Award, and the College Board Advanced Placement Special Recognition Award. He has also served on the College Board AP Computer Science Examination Development Committee. Additionally, Mr. Schram has been published in various volumes of the Preparation for the AP Computer Science Exams in Pascal, C++ and Exposure Java.
